RESUMO O arroz é um dos principais alimentos para metade da população mundial. A cultura do arroz possui alta demanda por água, mas o arroz de terras altas cresce e produz em ambientes não alagados, embora sua produtividade seja menor que a do arroz de várzea. Os grãos de arroz são constituídos majoritariamente por amido, sintetizado a partir de carboidratos não estruturais importados dos órgãos vegetativos. As reservas de carboidratos a longo prazo possuem papel fundamental na manutenção do suprimento de fotoassimilados para o enchimento dos grãos em momentos que a fotossíntese não atende essa demanda. Portanto a dinâmica dos carboidratos não estruturais é central para a produtividade. O objetivo deste estudo foi o de determinar os conteúdos de carboidratos não estruturais e os perfis de carboidratos solúveis em diferentes órgãos vegetativos do arroz de terras altas, genótipo BRS Esmeralda ao final do desenvolvimento vegetativo. Foram realizadas a análise qualitativa e a determinação das quantidades individuais dos carboidratos solúveis. Lâminas foliares completamente expandidas, lâminas foliares em expansão e caules apresentaram os maiores teores de carboidratos solúveis: 59,7, 53,3 e 52,3 mg g-1 MS, respectivamente. O caule é o principal órgão de armazenamento de carboidratos não estruturais a longo prazo, no qual o conteúdo de amido foi de 36.1 mg g-1 MS. Glicose, frutose e sacarose constituem os carboidratos solúveis. Carboidratos não estruturais foram encontrados em baixas quantidades nas raízes, evidenciando que este órgão não armazena reservas duradouras de carboidratos.

ABSTRACT Rice is one of the main foods consumed by half of the world’s population. The rice crop requires plenty of water, but upland rice is cultivated in a non-flooded environment, although its productivity is lower than that of lowland rice. Rice grains mostly consist of starch, which is synthesized from the non-structural carbohydrates imported from the vegetative organs. The long-term storage of carbohydrates plays a remarkable role in maintaining the supply of photoassimilates during grain filling if photosynthesis does not meet energy demand. Therefore, the dynamics of non-structural carbohydrates is central to the productivity of rice crops. The present study aimed to determine the non-structural carbohydrate content and soluble carbohydrate profiles in different vegetative organs of upland rice of the genotype BRS Esmeralda. The content was determined at the end of vegetative development. The identification and quantification of carbohydrates were performed by high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection. Fully expanded leaf blades, expanding leaf blades, and expanding stems exhibited the soluble carbohydrate content of 59.7, 53.3, and 52.3 mg g-1 DM, respectively. The stem was found to be the main organ for the long-term storage of non-structural carbohydrates, wherein the starch content was 36.1 mg g-1 DM. It also contained soluble carbohydrates such as glucose, fructose, and sucrose. The non-structural carbohydrates were found in low amounts in the roots, showing that this organ does not store long-term carbohydrates.

ABSTRACT Climatic seasonality has an influence on the phenology of native Cerrado plants. Herbs and subshrubs tend to flower in the rainy season, although some species of these habits flower in the dry season. Reserve carbohydrates, stored in the underground organs, are used to support phases of high energy-demand, but also may protect plants from damage during periods of environmental limitation. In this study we evaluated variation in fructan levels in the underground organs of field-grown plants of Chresta exsucca among different phenological phases. Chresta exsucca flowers in the dry season and possesses a diffuse underground system, which stores inulin-type fructans. Resprouting was continual during the sampling period. Oligosaccharide content was always higher than polysaccharide content, except during senescence, the only phase with an oligosaccharide: polysaccharide ratio < 1. Fructan accumulation occurred during vegetative growth until flowering. Fructan mobilization was prominent during resprouting until the beginning of vegetative growth. Fructans stored in the underground organs of C. exsucca serve to fulfill the energetic demands of development and maintenance of this complex structure. In this way, fructans are essential to the persistence of this species in the environment of the Cerrado by ensuring reproduction in harsh conditions, such as drought.

O presente estudo avaliou o potencial da trilha do Jequitibá, Parque Estadual dos Três Picos (RJ), para a sensibilização e conscientização dos seus usuários através da Interpretação Ambiental. Foram utilizadas as metodologias de caracterização biofísica da trilha, avaliação da trilha quanto a Interpretação Ambiental e o Índice de Atratividade dos Pontos Interpretativos (IAPI). A trilha do Jequitibá foi caracterizada como de leve dificuldade, curto percurso, com design apropriado para pedestres, sendo os impactos decorrentes do uso considerados mínimos ou controlados. Através do IAPI, pôde-se concluir que é uma trilha altamente atrativa, dotada de uma multiplicidade de recursos interpretativos. Apesar de possuir pontos de interpretação consensuais, estes enfatizam conteúdos biológicos e ecológicos em detrimento dos de cunho histórico e cultural, além de não apresentar roteiros temáticos de interpretação definidos. Embora não atenda a todos os pressupostos da Interpretação Ambiental, a trilha do Jequitibá pode ser considerada com caráter e potencial interpretativo, no entanto, os aspectos frisados devem ser trabalhados de forma a implementar e desenvolver plenamente a Interpretação Ambiental.

The present research evaluated the potential of Jequitibá Hiking Trail for the visitor sensitization and awareness through Environmental Interpretation. Several methodologies were used like biophysical characterization, evaluation of environmental interpretation aspects and Interpretative Points Attractiveness Index (IPAI) of the trail. The Jequitibá Hiking Trail was characterized as light, concerning the level of difficulty, with a short route, with appropriated design for pedestrians, and the impacts of public use were considered insignificant or managed. Through IPAI, it was possible to conclude that it's a highly attractive trail, endowed with several interpretative resources. Despite having consensual points of interpretation, which emphasize ecological and biological contents at the expense of the historical and cultural contents, thematic scripts for interpretation are lacking. Although not reaching all Tilden´s assumptions for Environmental Interpretation, Jequitiba Hiking Trail can be seen with character and potential for interpretation, however, the stressed aspects should be worked in order to fully implement and develop Environmental Interpretation.

As gramíneas reúnem características que as destacam como grupo evoluído e diversificado de plantas. Possuem desempenho fotossintético eficiente em diversas condições, são eficientes na produção e dispersão de diásporos, possuem sistema radicular fasciculado, além de produzirem estolhos e rizomas. O conjunto destes atributos faz com que gramíneas sejam apropriadas para a recomposição de áreas degradadas, atuando como pioneiras na sucessão ecológica. Se de um modo isto possibilita vantagem na ocupação de áreas em seu habitat original, por outro podem ser atributos que incrementam o grau de invasibilidade de uma espécie em outro ambiente. A composição de carboidratos não-estruturais e a alta produção de biomassa são discutidas visando fornecer subsídios para utilização das vantagens adaptativas das gramíneas em programas de manejo de reservas naturais.

Grasses combine characteristics that distinguish them as an evolved and diversified group of plants. They present an efficient photosynthetic metabolism under several conditions, as well as a high production and spreading of diaspores. Besides their fasciculate roots, some species can present stolons and rhizomes. Together, such attributes make grasses appropriated for the recovery of degraded areas, acting as pioneers in the ecological succession. However, if these characteristics enable grasses to occupy areas in their original habitat, they also increase their ability of invading other environments. Non-structural carbohydrates composition and high biomass production are discussed aiming at providing subsidies for the use of those adaptive advantages in programs for conservation of natural reserves.
